Despite the fact that one of my best friends is obsessed with Formula One, I know very little about anything regarding F1. Add in the fact that I generally prefer arcade-style racing games over simulated, realistic ones, and I don't often find myself enjoying most F1 games. F1GP is no exception to that rule. For me, when I wind up spinning out because a single tire was on the grass when I attempted to make a turn, that's not fun. I also don't want to have to qualify for every race…and while you technically can skip the qualifier runs, doing so puts you in last place, making it difficult to overcome the odds…especially if you struggle with controlling the car like I did with my time playing this. If you're an F1 purist, you'll probably find fun here - you can tweak absolutely everything about the car, so I'm sure if I knew anything about that, I could tweak the car to make it easier to race with for my style of driving…but I don't, so I didn't. Anyway, if you're a Formula One fanatic, you'll probably find something here to appreciate…if you know little to nothing about the sport, then expect a pretty steep learning curve. F1GP wasn't for me.

I want to like Foes of Ali…but the gameplay makes it hard sometimes. Foes of Ali was a boxing game released by Electronic Arts exclusively for the 3DO. The ideas are solid – allow players to reenact historic fights from boxing history with a decent-sized roster of fighters to play as. I’m not even really a fan of boxing, but I always like sports games that are based off of history. In that aspect, I love this game. Unfortunately, like I mentioned at the start, the gameplay is where Foes of Ali tanks. I understand that real boxing is the “sweet science” where you need to be strategic. If real boxing is the sweet science, then Foes of Ali is the putrid poo…I’m aware that poo isn’t a field of study like science is...but it should be so that my comment seems more clever. Anyway, the boxing is slow and plodding and does not handle well. On the other hand, if you decide to let the computer control both boxers and decide to watch, you’ll see a bit more excitement. So, if you’re a fan of boxing, that may be where the game shines for you. Overall, if you love boxing and its history, you’ll probably find enough here to enjoy. For the rest of us, there are better alternatives on easier-to-acquire consoles than Foes of Ali on the 3DO.
