Parker Bros. generally did a great job of putting out Frogger ports. This port to the Atari 8-bit series of computers is no exception to that rule. In fact unlike on the Atari 2600, where Starpath's "Official Frogger" was king, the opposite is true on Atari's computers. The Parker Bros. variation of the game is better than the "Official Frogger," this time put out by Sierra, by a pretty large margin. Despite being the frog king of the Atari 8-bit, this port isn't quite perfect. The background music, while present on the title screen, and between levels, is absent during the actual gameplay. A positive, however, is the difficulty - while the game seems to generally be easier than most other ports, I did also notice that you can adjust the difficulty at any time, including mid-game. So, if you're finding that the game is a little too easy or too difficult, you don't need to start over, you can change it immediately. Otherwise, Parker Bros. does take some creative liberties with the game in order to make it run well on this hardware, too….like removing one lane of traffic and not including that illusive otter that seems to rarely make appearances in these ports of Frogger. Overall, the Parker Bros. developed Atari 8-bit version of Frogger isn't the best port of the game, but it's still a solid, playable version of the beloved arcade game. And if you've got to choose between playing this, or Sierra's take on Frogger, then this port from Parker Bros. definitely should get the nod.
