Q*Bert Rebooted is an okay attempt at resurrecting the foul-mouthed, orange turkey baster with legs. It’s not very good, honestly, but it’s passable. Basically, Q*Bert Rebooted is a very toned-down version of the classic arcade game…the further you go into the game, the more the game gets tricky, but it never feels too difficult. You’re more likely to quit out of boredom than frustration, though. The graphics here are updated compared to the original Q*Bert, which one might expect from a game titled “Q*Bert Rebooted,” however the new graphics don’t look that great for the platforms that this was released on…and honestly, I’ve always found a certain charm to old, pixelated graphics. Keeping the art design pixelated and just updating the look, making things more detailed, is probably all that the developers needed to do here. The gameplay isn’t much of a reboot, either. While it’s not necessarily worse than the original Q*Bert game, it’s also not very different. They’ve added some challenges and goals to go for…but challenges and goals don’t really help if the player starts becoming too bored to try to complete them. For folks like myself, who would rather just play the arcade original, that’s included here as well…which, is nice, but it also serves as a reminder that there isn’t very much worthwhile to this reboot. Anyway, Q*Bert Rebooted is passable for what it is, but I feel like most fans of the foul-mouthed orange fella would rather play the original game than this rebooted version of it.
