I was a huge fan of the original Killer Instinct. I mastered most of the combos, repeatedly beat the game, and even had the code memorized to play as Eyedol. Fast forward over 20 years and I found myself playing Killer Instinct all over again with the old crew and several new names and plenty of combos to go around for everyone…unfortunately, not much has evolved over the past 20 years in terms of Killer Instinct’s gameplay, so aside from graphical improvements, more playable characters (including being able to play as Eyedol without a code), and unlockables from fulfilling challenges, there’s not anything groundbreaking here. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, mind you, Killer Instinct will definitely keep fans of fighting games entertained for a while, but I don’t think anyone has gone out and said that this was the greatest fighting game ever created, either. It’s worth picking up for fans of the original Killer Instinct, but if that game didn’t impress you, I can’t imagine that this one would, either.

One of my favorite movies of all-time is Killer Klowns from Outer Space…I've seen it dozens of times and I find myself quoting it without thinking at times…like threatening to tear things apart with "MAH BAYER HAYUNDS!!" But anyway, when I saw this game was being released, I was very excited…until I saw that it was yet another multiplayer deathmatch game. I was hoping it would be a survival horror game based off of the film - kind of like how The Warriors was adapted to a video game by Rockstar Games, where the main story was the film was there, but some extra stuff was added. Or at least have a single-player campaign mode of some sort. Unfortunately, none of that is here. Anyway, despite my disappointment there, I do enjoy the novelty of taking control of the klowns from the film to dispatch of the folks in the level in over-the-top Looney Tunes-like ways. For example, if I pummel someone with a mallet, I can execute a Klowntality by swinging the mallet like a baseball bat, sending the poor person up into the air…and when the klown looks in the sky to see where that person has gone, they crash to the ground behind them with a bit of a splatter. If I wasn't already a fan of the film, I don't know if I would have enjoyed this game as much as I did, though…and quite honestly, aside from the novelty of this being based off of a cult-classic film, this game doesn't do anything different than any other horror-based deathmatch game that I've played. It's not bad. In the time I spent with it, I didn't see any bugs like I've seen in some other games…but the gameplay also isn't really anything that's going to stand out. If you love Killer Klowns from Outer Space, and like deathmatch-style gameplay, then you'll probably be amused here like I was. If you don't want to tear those klowns apart with yer bayer hayunds, then you may not be as impressed with it.

Knock on the Window looks pretty unique and interesting when you see the game's art direction in the screenshots…unfortunately, after you play through it, you find out that it's not very unique or interesting aside from the art direction. Basically, if you've played a walking simulator-style horror game, then you've played Knock on the Window. The story starts out interesting enough…you're in an office and you find that a co-worker of yours has pranked your boss again by gluing his hiney to his chair. The boss takes the prank in stride and offers that he'll give you a raise by finishing a project that he was working on at his house…he even offers to let you stay the night if it takes too long to complete it. Of course, it takes too long, so you spend the night. From there, you get a knock on the window that eventually leads to you getting kidnapped to an abandoned hotel that you spend the rest of the game trying to escape. There is zero action to be found here, zero puzzles, zero difficulty, and close to zero entertainment, unfortunately. The game lasts about an hour and I was completely ready for it to end….and then when it ended, I watched the ending and said, "That's it?!" I really wanted to like this game, and the Steam store's preview and screenshots made this game look so interesting…but unfortunately, it's not. Will I ever play this again? To quote Little Richard, Knock on the Window can " keep a knockin' but it can't come in."
