The dark story in I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream is fantastic and the five different scenarios you play through (or six if you count the finale) are all unique and interesting in their own right. As far as point-and-click adventures go, this is up there as one of my favorites. My only real wish for I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream is that I wish it was a little longer so that we could get better backgrounds on each character before we reach the end. As it is, the story is well written, but a little more background could have created more of an emotional attachment (good or bad) to the characters, making each scenario, and the game as a whole, have a little more of an impact. But, as it is, I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream is fantastic and I highly recommend it to point-and-click adventure fans.

I Love You Colonel Sanders: A Finger Lickin’ Good Dating Simulator is a free game available on Steam that, as you might expect, shamelessly promotes KFC by putting you in the role of somebody madly in love with a dreamy-looking, young Colonel Sanders as you both attend a three-day culinary school taught by a talking dog. Being a fan of bizarre games, I immediately knew that I needed to play this game when it was announced. The game is pretty short, taking roughly an hour to complete, but it stays entertaining the whole time and ends before the over-the-top presentation of Colonel Sanders as a complete stud muffin overstays its welcome. Considering that this is a free game, you could do a whole lot worse than playing this…of course, if it’s Valentine’s Day, and you’ve got an hour to kill before doing any mushy stuff, and a bucket of KFC chicken nearby, I can’t think of a more appropriate way to spend your time than playing this.

I generally enjoy the horror games put out by EMIKA_GAMES, I also enjoy the transparency in their game descriptions - not only do they tell you specifically what kind of game it is, they'll tell you an estimated amount of time that it'll take to finish it. So when I was looking for a quick game to squeeze in to review, I saw that this game would take an estimated 60 minutes to complete, and decided to give 'er a try. I'm glad I did. This is essentially a haunted house version of a "walking simulator," with minor puzzles tossed in. By that, I mean that there is zero combat and zero need to hide or anything like that…just keep moving forward with the story without a fear of dying. EMIKA_GAMES does do a good job of making an uneasy setting. I rarely jump from jump scares, and they managed to get me once in this game…I imagine that people who are jumpy may have a few scares ahead of them here. Anyway, if you're looking for a simplistic, but passable, horror game without a need for combat or complex puzzles, then I think you'll probably like I'm counting to 6…if you want more action or complexity to the gameplay, then you may find this game a little disappointing.

In My Head does some things very well…but unfortunately, it does a greater number of things poorly. I'll start with the big positive - the overall look. The game looks great, and the lighting is usually fantastic. Toss in the camera filter, and how like a camera, the images sometimes go out of focus, and you've got a pretty good atmosphere. Unfortunately, that's where the good stops. The game moves at the pace of a snail…and feels like it goes on too long. The game's puzzles are so obvious that you may overthink them…like the keypad combination in the cabin. And now that I'm thinking about it….that's the only real puzzle, I think. The others are just looking at images and doing what you see in the images…hint, hint, that's essentially the same solution for the keypad. While the monkey see/monkey do gameplay works for a little bit, it feels like a chore by the end of the game. Knowing what to do and where to go probably cuts the gameplay in half from your first run…and I'm tempted to say that if the developer cut that first run time in half, this wouldn't have had a chance to feel dull. Still, In My Head has some positives to it, and I'm glad that I played it…but for some players, I feel like the negatives may hold them back from seeing this game through to the end.

Inscryption….is a game that I both love and hate. The first part of the game, I love. It's a strategic card game with rogue-like elements tossed in. It's addicting and fun. Unfortunately, once you get past the first part of the game, the gameplay goes from winning with strategy to losing from luck. The second part of the game legitimately feels like you can win or lose without powering up your deck - you're at the mercy of luck. Unlike the first part of the game, in the second part, you don't get to choose from two separate decks, you're stuck with the order that comes out of one…you it's likely that many times you'll find yourself annoyed that the order that the cards appear means that you've got to completely skip your turn, essentially handing over the win you your opponent….then your next battle, you'll win in just a few turns with zero effort. The second part of the game, while neat in theory, really drags this game down. Thankfully, in part three, Inscryption gets back to some strategy with its card game, but still taking it into a different direction than in the first part. While I like that the developer tried something unique here, I'd be lying if I didn't say that I wish they put a little more time into really flushing out the gameplay in the first part of the game and just left it at that. Still, there's more good here than bad, and if card-based gameplay sounds interesting to you, then I definitely recommend giving it a try.

Inunaki Tunnel is a decent, somewhat short horror game from Chilla's Art. It sounds odd for me to say, since I love exploration and wandering around in games, but I feel like Inunaki Tunnel loses something with how large the game world is. On one hand, the large areas help give the player anxiety, since you have no real way to tell what direction you're facing, with the rare exception that you've got a landmark easily visible nearby to go off of…on the other hand, since you usually have no way of knowing the direction that you're facing, it's easy to get lost and struggle to find your way back on the right track. If you spend enough time wandering, you kind of get an idea of which way is which to a degree…but I feel like if the game world was just slightly smaller, it could have avoided a lot of confusion. Still, though, I found Inunaki Tunnel to be a passable game overall, and worth checking out if you like to wander around in games…just be prepared to get lost a time or two along the way.

I'll start out by saying that I like it when games feel unique…but sometimes, even that isn't enough to make me like it. Iron Lung is a unique game…but ultimately one that I didn't care for. Listed as a horror game, it didn't really feel like one to me. Nearly the whole game is looking at a radar, and changing coordinates as you head to places located on a map. If you get close to a wall, then the radar lets you know and you need to change course or you'll crash. Once you get to a location, your goal is to take a picture of that location, making sure that you're in the correct coordinates prior to taking the picture - X, Y, and Fi/Theta…For those that don't know, X would be left to right, Y would be forward and backward, and Fi/Theta (called A in this game) is basically the rotation of the vessel that you're controlling. I think most people seem to like this game more than me, and it's not technically a bad game, but I just couldn't get into it. It's a short game, but 20 minutes in, I was considering just moving on to something else. If Iron Lung looks interesting to you, by all means, you should give it a try…it just wasn't my cup of tea.

It's Just a Prank is a decent, short game that revolves around three children that go to school together, and their friendship that revolves around pranks. It's very linear without a whole lot of opportunities to go off the beaten path, but it did manage to hold my attention during the entire game….granted, the game will take most folks 30-40 minutes to complete, but the story was done well enough where I was interested in seeing where everything was going to go. As you watch this story unfold, you'll participate in the usual pranks, like throwing paper balls at the teacher and putting a whoopie cushion on the seat of a classmate before they sit down…but, since It's Just a Prank is labeled as a horror game on Steam, it's only natural that the pranks get a little more disturbing as the story advances. Eventually, it all comes together in a finale that is left to your imagination…but it's fairly obvious what the end result is. Anyway, It's Just a Prank is a nice, unique take on the horror genre. It's not action-packed, or full of jump scares…it's just a short game that relies on its narrative that takes a disturbing twist near the end. It's not anywhere near a great experience, but it's okay for what it is…it's passable…maybe It's Just a Prank is better named It's Just a Passable Game.
