White Water!
Also known as: N/A
Developer: Imagic
White Water! is a bit of an odd game, and it may be one of Imagic's weaker games, but it's still decent for what it is. When you start each game of White Water!, you start in the forest. You want to go right to get to your raft, where two friends are already on it and waiting for you. What happens if you go in any other direction? Well, they're lost forever in the forest and you'll be sailing down the river with two people instead of three. Since you get penalized for losing people in the raft, you can essentially start the game with a penalty by simply going in the wrong direction. Once in the raft, you'll be playing one of seven different variations…though, it's technically more like two. Games one through four are just races where your goal is to get your raft to the finish line, without losing any people in the raft, as quickly as possible. Games five through seven has you navigating your raft to each white beach that you see, leaving the raft, and entering the forest, where the goal is to basically steal treasure from the tribesmen of the forest, culminating with a race to a golden urn. When done, you then return to your raft and paddle to the next beach. I should also note, that I mentioned being penalized for losing people in your raft. If you do happen to see someone go overboard, you do have the ability to save them and get them back into the raft. I actually liked this aspect, as it forced me to sometimes fight against the currents to try to save them, adding some challenge. I say that because navigating the river itself can be pretty boring. You'll quickly learn, and the manual even tells you this, that trying to steer and control the raft at all times is an easy way to struggle getting to your destination. Instead, just going with the flow of the river is enough to get you where you need to be, usually without incident. Overall, Imagic did a decent job with White Water! There are some neat, original ideas here, and this isn't a bad game by any stretch, but after an hour or so of playing, I'm not sure if I'll ever be returning to this one.
