Ultimate Fighting Championship isn't a fighting game with fireballs coming out of the hands of the fighters. There aren't exotic locations that the fighters brawl in. There's no limit breaks, no combos, no fatalities...This game is purely mixed martial arts action from the early days of the sport. Just punches, kicks, takedowns, and submissions. But Anchor did a tremendous job bringing the sport of MMA to video games. Just like in a real fight, you may be taking a beating, but if you can manage to slap on a submission hold out of nowhere, you can still pull off the victory. That's my preferred style of fighting, honestly…take 'em down, and tap 'em out. The beauty of this game is that despite its simplicity, it's pretty strategic because of how quickly a match can end. If you go in purely on the offense, you probably won't last long. You need to go on defense on the right time and on the offense at the right time to succeed here and eventually bring make Ultiman suck soup through a straw for a few weeks. At its time, this was the best MMA game ever made. More than ten years later, it may not be the best any more, but it's still near the top of the heap, in my opinion.
