Interlude, may be one of the first "adult" video games ever made. I think most folks playing this wouldn't really know what to think of it, though, unless they have the game's manual handy along with an idea of what the game aims to accomplish. Without the manual, it just seems like a mildly adult quiz with it telling you what number "Interlude" your quiz suggests, but not actually telling you what that is on screen. Essentially, Interlude is a game designed to give you and your significant other a game to play…away from the computer screen, if you catch my drift. When you boot Interlude up, it will ask you how many people. You can say one or two…I tried putting in three for one of my best amigos since that's their thang, but it's not an option here. If you wanted more, you're out of luck. You're then asked your gender…or if you said 2 people, then the game assumes that one is male and one is female. So, again, if you're homosexual, non-binary, or any of that stuff, you're out of luck here, too. After that, you're asked to insert your name(s). So if you have no name, you're out of......well, you get the idea. Lastly, you're asked if you want to experience the "Interlude" now or later….before I continue, let's just get the definition of interlude since "experience an interlude now or later" just seems like an odd thing to say. Well, it could be one of five things…1) an intervening episode, period, space, etc.; 2) a short, dramatic piece; 3) one of the early English farces or comedies; 4) any intermediate performance or entertainment; 5) an instrumental passage or piece of music rendered between parts of a song. None of those really seem like adult-themed activities to me…They should've had Austin Powers name this game, then the question would be, "Would you like to shag now or later, baby?" That's way more obvious about what's going on here. Anyway, after you complete those initial questions, then you will be given another series of questions that you (or you and your partner, if you chose two people at the start) need to answer. When the quiz is complete, you'll wait a moment, then the game will state, "I HAVE SELECTED INTERLUDE #__" followed by, "HAVE FUN!" If that doesn't sound very adult to you, it's not…that's because the game is "over" at this point and they want you to go to the 100+ page manual that came with the game to look up the scenario that you're supposed to use on your partner...and while some of them seem romantic in nature, some of them are also pretty graphic in their descriptions. No visual aids, but plenty of adult language that you may not want the children seeing. My five-year-old brain got Interlude #65, and when I looked it up in the manual, I saw it was titled "Patty Cake." I thought to myself, "Well, I'm good at Patty Cake…when I was a young'un I could play Patty Cake with the best of 'em. I could've gone pro as a Patty Cake master! Toured the world in all my Patty Cake splendor!" Then I read the description…and that's not the Patty Cake I remember when I was a kid. Anyway, I guess if you want a game to tell you how to spice up your love life with your partner, then this can do it to a degree…but it's hard for me to believe that anybody actually used this for anything besides forever perverting the name of Patty Cake for the innocent, child-minded folks like myself. Shame on you, Syntonic Software!!
