I've been a huge fan of the Ridge Racer series since I first played a demo for R4: Ridge Racer Type 4, which hooked me so much that I wound up buying the game, and eventually I wound up playing that game so much that I unlocked everything, including the fancy Pac-Man car...However, I also haven't played a game from the series since that got me as hooked as R4 did…though the PSP Ridge Racer did come close. Ridge Racer 3D wasn't a game that de-throned R4 as my favorite from the series by any stretch of the imagination, but it's still a good, solid racing game for the 3DS. If you like racing games, or just the Ridge Race games in general, there’s plenty to like here, as well as some familiar tracks for longtime fans of the Ridge Racer series. Drifting around corners is fun and can ultimately result in you winning a race….or losing one, if you make no effort to try to master it. Anyway, if you want a racing game, but don't like banana peels on the track that make your car spin out, but would rather wobble back and forth as you try to balance your vehicle during an attempted drift gone wrong, then Ridge Racer 3D may be for you…Maybe I should word that differently. When you taste defeat, if you want it to be from your own mistakes rather than the actions of others, then Ridge Racer 3D may be the 3DS game for you. It’s not perfect, but it’s a decent racing game to play on the go.
