In this first issue of Famitsu, and for the next several, the main reviews are done in a unique style - they are weather reports. Essentially, there are (usually) four reviewers that give a score on a scale of one through five (kind of, I'll explain further down) for five different categories. According to Google translate, they are brightness, mania, impression, depth, and general. I won't pretend to know what all categories mean, but I assume that general is the "overall thoughts" of the game....any long-time Famitsu readers, please feel free to correct me or provide more information.
Anyway, the scoring on a scale of one through five is actually done without numbers at all. As I mentioned, this is a weather report, so what's a weather report without weather? On their review scale, a 1 is represented by a snowman, 2 is a dark cloud with a lightning bolt, 3 is a cloud, 4 is a cloud with the sun peeking out, and 5 is a nice, bright sun by itself. Another review method is introduced in issue 10, used at the same time as this method for a few issues. I'll explain that when we get to it.

This issue of Famitsu saw the debut of "New Game Cross Review." Instead of providing a big, long review, this area lists five games and mini reviews of each game by four different reviewers. Each reviewer gives the games a single score on a scale between one and ten. As you'll see in the next issue of Famitsu, some games featured in this section will also get the full-length "Weather Report" review in future issues as well.
